Old and Wacky Christmas Traditions: "Sit" or "Go"

We’re counting down the days until Christmas with a list of Traditions that you may or may not have heard of!

For this first tradition, we’re predicting the future. At least, that’s what maidens in Poland claimed to do.

Maidens curious about their future love didn’t worry about getting their palms read. Instead they waited until Christmas Eve. They would eavesdrop on their neighbor, hoping to hear the word “go.” Why? If a maiden heard the word “go,” it meant she would be getting married within the coming year. Alternately, if she heard “sit,” it meant she would be single for a long time.
